Answers:
about Horseland...
the link is http://www.horseland.com
And I kinda agree with the second answer... I was really really into it at first. and now i care a little less...
There's people of all ages who play horseland... although the major demographic is the younger females. but it really doesn't matter... you don't really interact much.
You don't have to know anything about computers... but if you want to decorate your homepage you can.
What you do in the game...
you can buy horses and dogs... any breed you want. when you buy from the store, they're 3 years old. You can name them, make their description of how they look (height and color), you can say what disciplines they are (english/western or more specific if you choose), and you can choose a picture for your animal... you can either use the ones in the game or upload your own (which can get kinda tricky, but i prefer my own picture rather than the computer's).
once you have an animal you can earn points by training it (it's often very hard to find someone who will actually train an animal... only premium members can train, have shows, and have boarding stables... trainers have to buy tickets everymonth and once the tickets are gone they have to wait until next month to buy more, so training tends to be difficult to find and expensive). you can also earn points by entering shows. you click on shows and choose one and each show has 100 classes, so you click the 'enter class' button 100 times. your horse earns a certain number of points for what place it comes in... if it places in the top 30... and it gets a few points just for entering the class too.
so the point is to enter the horse in lots of shows to earn lots of points. then you can breed your horse and if you have a mare and stallion who both have a lot of points, your foal will be born with a bunch of points too.
the game is meant to be realistic so you periodically have to get your horses feet done by a farrier and go to the vet or else you can't enter shows. and you have to board your animals if you're not a premium member (and boarding can get kinda frustrating since a lot of young girls think it would be fun to offer boarding and then they decide it's too hard and too much work, so they just quit feeding your animals after you've already paid... but once you find a quality person who offers boarding, everything will be fine).
Some important notes...
horses and dogs cannot start showing until they're 3. horses STOP being able to be bred or shown at 21 and dogs at 16. It's kinda the death of the animal, although horseland never actually deletes your animal. the animals are 1 year older every week. you have to finish with your animal within that time. then it gives you the option to retire your horse to the pasture. if you do, the animal is deleted. That's fine IF you haven't bred the animal. but if you have bred the animal and you're worried about the foal's breeding lines, then you have to keep the parents alive or else the foal gets gaps in its breeding. for that reason, there's a lot of older animals being saved by people and there's a lot of other people who buy animals just to retire them. retiring the animals will speed up the game, but makes gaps in the breeding lines.
so that's the whole point of horseland. I started playing in January and I liked it a lot at first, but now that i'm home for the summer and I'm not on the computer all the time, I haven't been taking care of my animals... i forget to go on and feed them and enter them in shows and stuff... so you can decide for yourself
a couple of girls at my barn are really into this game "Horseland". They are about twelve or thirteen so it's probably aimed at pre-teens.
And i get the impression that you may have to pay and know HTML fairly well.
i used to play horseland when i was little. it was fun for like the first 3 months, and then it got annoying. so i wouldn't go there.
www.virtualhorseranch.com
www.avirtualhorse.com
www.hajinc.com
these are some that i found on the internet.
The only ones I know of are:
Horseland.com
Trophyhorse.com
And sometime during the summer/fall, a new one will be coming out, Showhorse.com.
Those are all pretty cool.
Horseland or Virtualhorseranch.com are pretty good. You can get a paying account, or a non-paying one. Paying is better, of course!
I play virtualhorseranch. It is more real than Horseland. You train, breed and show your horses and can put them in clubs as well!
Good luck!
www.ponybox.com is fun.
hurricane farms sim horse club is about as close to the real thing as you can get. been around for years too.
