Horse has sweet itch we need good fly repellent to keep them away.

I use a homemade mixture:
1part- Distilled White Vinegar
1part- Pine-Sol
1part- Water
Works like a charm, and alot cheaper than "horse fly spray". I've been using it for years, and never had a single horse have a bad reaction to it.
Another tip is to buy one of those garden sprayers from walmart or lowes, and mix your spray up in there. Especially if you have alot of horses. The sprayer has a wand so it's easier to apply, no pumping and pumping, just push the button and spray them down. Good luck with your fly battle... we'll never win, but we can hold em off!
Flies suck. There is nothing out there that will keep them away for very long. Let em roll in mud. Of course if you show them that would not be good. There was some kind of spray lotion that Avon came out with that our black smith used to use. I don't recall the name. Sorry for your fly problem. It will be a life long battle.
Try visiting your local tack shop they can recommend a good fly spray they carry, someone there might even have a recipe.
You could also try these, fly predators, they are really tiny bugs that don't bother horses, but eat fly eggs to cut down the population. You can get them here: http://www.spalding-labs.com/home.php...
This is one I use since my husband is a farrier and allergic to most fly sprays.
in a 1 gallon jug put in enough dawn dish soap to measure about 1 inch or so (none of the measurements have to be exact) again as much white vinegar and half a large bottle of Avon Skin So Soft, fill with water. Put in a clean spray bottle. Shake before each use. Doesn't last a long time but in more gentle for you and your horse.
The best thing to use for flies in my opinion is Avon's Skin So Soft. It's safe and works on all animals.
Its cheaper and better for your horse in the long run to just buy a good name brand fly spray from your tack shop or feed store. Endure, Happy Horse, Repel X are all good brands. Good luck! Be careful with the home remidies, skin so soft can block the pours, hence prevent sweating. Good luck!
You Could Use A Light Rug, Thats Used In The Summer 2 Keep Flies Away, Or Even A Tail Bandage Aswell , Theres Also Face Masks, Sorta Hood Things U Can Gt 4 Them
If U Cant Find Fly Repelants !
I have always use a brand called mustang.
I use Dynamite Dyna-Shield fly spray concentrate. (http://dynamitemarketing.com)
It's all natural and actually works well.
If you're having a lot of problems with flies, see if you can have your manure picked up regularly, and store it as far from the barn as possible. It makes a huge difference!
i use farnam Bite Free it works really well. you can find it at www.valleyvet.com
I'd use this skin so soft stuff! It's great, and the horse smells good too!
